Info about the Wineries:

Wilson Winery – Wilson is the smallest winery that we will visit on our tour.  They produce ~10,000 cases a year, and makes exciting single vineyard Zinfandels.  Wilson recently won 20 medals at the 2010 Sonoma County Fair, and just received another 20 medals at the 2011 San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition.  We will get to see these medals at their Dry Creek Valley Tasting Room.   In 2002, the Wilson Family established the “Children of the Vineyard Workers Scholarship Fund”.

Simi Winery – Simi Winery is one of the oldest and largest superpremium-class boutique wineries in California, with an annual case production of ~150,000.  Simi continued to make wine during Prohibition from 1920 until 1933, and stored the wine in the winery’s stone cellars.  As one of the few California wineries to survive Prohibition, Simi was forced to sell most of its vineyards to survive.  The winery was sold in 1981 to Moët-Hennessy, which became part of LVMH Moët-Hennessy.  Later in 1999, the winery was sold again to Constellation Brands, one of the largest beverage companies in the world.  Simi is very well-known for their Cabernet Sauvignons.  We get 30% off all purchases at this winery during the tour.

Hanna Winery & Vineyards – Hanna is one of the featured wineries at the Press Club in SF, and is known for their Russian River Sauvignon Blanc.  They are also a family-owned winery, with a modest production of ~46,000 cases annually.  27,500 cases of the total production is the famous Sauvignon Blanc.  Hanna also has a line of higher-end reds, under the Bismark product line.

Seghesio Family Vineyards – Seghesio is one of the oldest wineries in the Sonoma Valley.  It remains family owned through four generations.  They grows a very rare Italian white grape called the Arneis, which is found primarily in the Italian wine region of Piedmont, and featured in the Roero and Langhe.  Wine Spectator recently awarded 90 points to Seghesio’s Sonoma Zin.
